- MiniDisc
Q & A
- What is
MiniDisc?
- MiniDisc is
a digital music/data format.
What
does a MiniDisc look like?
- MiniDiscs
are 3 1/2 " plastic squares with a high capacity disc
within. They look somewhat like the result of a floppy disk
and a CD getting it. That may not have helped...
(picture at right).
- Where can I get
MiniDiscs/equipment?
I
bought a disk; how can I find out if it is a MiniDisc?
- Well, look
for the MiniDisc logo, as shown to the right.
- How does this
crazy thing work?
- MiniDisc
players/recorders contain both a laser and a magnetic head.
When the disc is inserted, the shutter is opened and the disc is
clear to be read.
- What is the
point of the plastic case? Why not just have a little disc by
itself?
- The case is
to protect the disc within. It is virtually
indestructible. Also, it looks really cool.
- Why would I
waste my money on this crap?
- For
starters, it is the most portable, versatile, and economical media
choice. Sure, you can buy a burner and CD-R's for about the
same price, but CD's are huge. Also, burners are not
portable. MP3 players are more expensive, with lower sound
quality, and more expensive media. My MZ-R37PC has a USB D/A
converter for MP3 recording. A 32 MB MP3 player can hold one
song @ near CD quality (>256 kb/sec). MiniDisc is 100%
digital. If optical input is used, then the recording is CD
quality. Nothing else makes sense.

a question? Lay it down in the feedback section and I'll get it
taken care of in this section.
